How do I know if I am buying premium quality tea?
Posted by admin | Under Online Grocer Monday Dec 21, 2009With so many brands and originations, how do I know? Are the bigelow or celestial seasonings or salada etc. as good as something from a tea company online? Is tea something worth investing in or doesn’t it matter, is a dried leaf and dried leaf? I buy yogi or traditional medicinals from the organic part of a grocer but is that the best choice?
you really don’t with those tea bags. Sure some tea bags are glamourous with their fancy labels, fancy tea bags, but you don’t know until you taste it.
I think the only real way to know is to order online from www.teaspring.com or www.uptontea.com
Those places have harvest dates , etc and then you’ll know it’s fresh.
I’m a big tea drinker, but don’t mind tea bags.
I LOVE tea! my favorite brand is celestial seasonings. I think that they have very quality ingredients and the best packaging (all recycled material, plus the bags aren’t individually wrapped, and, no staples!) Yogi tea is ok but they individually wrap their tea and it seems to me that they put licorice and anise in everything! not my fave. Pick n Save and other grocery stores are starting to sell bulk tea which is always the best way to go about purchasing. Its a lot cheaper, eco-friendly, and your can get as much or as little as you like.

The best choice is the one that you enjoy. Most of the manufactures I think do a good job with tea products and I am not talking about the instant type. Most of the time you get what you pay for.

It depends on what type of tea you are buying, for a classic black lets say for Iced Tea it doesn’t usually matter, I go for Lipton or Luzianne. For green and white teas, I usually buy Ito En, Ineeka Tea or bulk from a Asian market. If I am looking for a flavored herbal tea I like Republic of Tea. I find Celestial Seasonings to be weak and flavorless. I prefer Yogi tea over TM for medicinal tea. I love tea and I am always trying new brands and varieties.

Brands are not as inportant as what the actual tea is all about. If you are loooking for a tea with the most anti-oxidents, choose a ‘White Tea’ – far exceeds black tea and herbal teas.

I usually buy loose-leaf teas in bulk from health food stores or tea shops. I can tell quality from the reaction of my stomach. Cheap teas like Lipton make me throw up. That may not be a help to you, but my advice is to just buy loose-leaf.
