Would you pay someone to buy your groceries and deliver them to your home?
Posted by admin | Under Grocery Delivery Services Saturday May 1, 2010I am thinking of starting a small grocery delivery service. Basically I will buy groceries for busy professionals, seniors, new moms and anyone who doesn’t have time to go to the grocery store. I was thinking of charging $20 for any bill under $100 and 20% of the bill for orders of $100 or more. I was also thinking of charging $10 to bring in the groceries and put them away.
Is this reasonable? Would you or anyone you know use this type of service?
I would definately pay someone to do that, if i was any of those things you said. I think it is a lovely idea, especially for the elder population and new moms.
But.. I think the $20 is a little too much if the bill is under $100. Maybe you could make if 15 or something, it sounds more appealing.. Otherwise you could start on a low price, and raise it when your business gets more popular..
But all in all, i love the idea, and i would definately consider your firm if i was a new mom, old, or any of the other things.
Good luck with the business!
great idea!

yes its a good idea because grocery shopping takes time…and people would pay because it’ll save them time and its more convinient.

uhm, most grocery stores do this already…also there are several independent companies that do so as well.
but good luck…I think it’s a good idea especially for older folk.

If I was a senior citizen and no longer had the capability to do so myself and had decent retirement money saved up, I would contemplate hiring a grocery deliverer as long as they were legit and got what I needed.
If I was a new mom, considering I might have a boyfriend/husband/friend helping/mother or someone of that status to help me, no I would not pay.
If I was a new mom on her own, I would contemplate this again but most likely if I am a single mother I do not have money to pay for your services so it’s more likely to be a no.
Other people: Most will have time and money sense to do it themselves. Target senior citizens.

Actually, this has been done all across the country and they have almost all closed up shop. With gas prices and falling economy, there wasn’t enough business to keep them afloat. That said, there is a need for the service, but those who need it most, can’t afford it.

I would love it and I would pay for it.

I used to do that when i was on welfare cause i didnt have a car and it was easier to deliver it, i think they charged me $3 but that was a while ago, now i dont buy groceries, i live in a resort and get free meals in the dining rm.

In my town, the supermarket offers this service. I don’t know what they charge because I never did it. If I could afford to do it, I certainly would. As far as putting groceries away, I don’t know. That means people’s house keys, property, theft suspicions, etc. Would you have to be insured for that? In case they sued you for stolen property?

I could see seniors using this service depending on how old they are, but i would give a "senior discount" so to speak. Most seniors are tight with their money and don’t want to pay 70 dollars for 50 dollars of groceries.

I think this is an awesome idea! I’ve thought about this myself too because EVERYONE hates going to the grocery store! And EVERYONE needs groceries.
But, there is a down side, the way the economy is, people are more willing to suffer through ordeals like that to save a buck.Your best market would probably be the elderly. I know that I wouldn’t pay anyone to go get my groceries for me. But that’s cause I’m 23.
P.S. 10 bucks to bring in the groceries and put them away is kinda steep, considering it only takes a few minutes to do. Maybe 5 would be a better deal.
Keep thinking about it, and I’m sure you’ll find your niche.

Heck yeah! I like to do my own shopping though, because I don’t trust anyone else to get it right.
