If you are from the U.S. you certainly will find the groceries very inexpensive. The Soriana chain is a good supermarket I like to go too to pickup some things to cook while I am in town. You will find the Walmart to be very good as well they sell everything at Walmart. Even the OXXO stores are cheaper then most supermarkets we have in the states.
References :
Yes , there are some real bargains. Bollios--(Calabrese Buns) are 1 peso. Fruit and vegetables are the best bargain at all large supermarkets. Bread , integral. start at 18 pesos a loaf and up to 28 pesos for the 8 grain brown.
A 4 gallon Bottle of water is 25 pesos less the security deposit.
Tia rosa tortillas are 24 pesos for 20 . Eggs are cheap and I can`t recall how much for a flat of 18. Like anywhere beef is more expensive than Pork and chicken is still not a bad deal. Rice is cheap and milk is under price control , less than a dollar a liter in all supermarkets. Fresh LaLa is 10 pesos a liter. The milk that does not need refrigeration is 9 pesos a liter.
Acapulco is the more expensive on the west coast, at least all the cities I have traveled to
